Key West Beaches for Every Mood & Occasion
Even though it’s an island, our home in the Florida Keys is host to only a handful of sandy beaches. That’s because America’s only living coral reef protects us from large waves, never allowing the rocky shores to breakdown into the fine runs beachgoers love. But that doesn’t mean there aren’t any, as the beaches that do exist will surely satisfy your need for sand and sun. Best of all, our Key West hotel’s beach vacation suites are just half a mile from two of the island’s best stretches, and a short walk or bike ride to the rest.South Beach
Duval Street & the Atlantic Ocean
One of our neighbor beaches is also a local favorite, with shallow waters for wading. Please bear in mind that there are no restrooms or facilities, though.
Fort Zachary
601 Howard England Way
For $2.50 each, walkers and cyclists are welcome to explore this historic fort that predates the Civil War, as well as the 54-acre state park and scenic beaches surrounding it. Lovingly known as “Fort Zach,” the swimming, snorkeling, and sunset views here are spectacular. Food, drinks, picnic tables, BBQs, and beach chair rentals are also available.
Smathers Beach
South Roosevelt Boulevard
The island’s largest beach is also its most hip and lively. A 2.5-mile seaside sidewalk invites runners and cyclists, while food trucks, beach vendors, volleyball nets, and watersports rentals offer something for everyone. Be sure to make time for windsurfing, parasailing, or jet-skiing.
Rest Beach
White Street & the Atlantic Ocean
The name says it all. Home to some of the best fishing on the island, there’s a peaceful yoga deck with nightly classes as well.
