Every night is a special event in Key West. As the sun goes down over the clear blue waters of the Gulf of Mexico, people gather in Mallory Square to take part in a daily tradition that goes all the way back to the 1960s. Sunset Celebration is a nightly free arts festival that should not be missed. Street performers entertain the crowds, local food vendors serve up their favorite recipes, and artists sell their handmade wares along the sidewalks. It’s a magical atmosphere that attracts thousands of people to celebrate the last rays of the day’s sunshine.
On Friday, May 22, the Sunset Celebration will welcome a historic tall ship to the waterfront. The USS Eagle, a 295-foot Coast Guard training vessel, will dock along the pier to join in the tropical fun at Mallory Square. The crew will offer free public tours of this gorgeous vessel, and there will be plenty of special seafaring performances to celebrate the arrival of “America’s tall ship.” Each day the ship will be open from 10 am to 10 pm, so you can enjoy a few extra hours the sunset activities in Mallory Square. It will be docked all weekend long, however on Monday, May 25, the ship will set sail for its next port of call. Mark your calendars and don’t miss out on this very special Key West event!
